HSC: 1939 New York Yankees Signed Baseball PSA/DN
1939 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. After their team captain Lou Gehrig proclaimed himself "the luckiest man on the face of the earth" in a tearful farewell on the Fourth of July, the 1939 Yanks might have crumbled from the loss of baseball's most durable superstar. This was not the case. The boys instead rallied their strength and posted a forty and nineteen record in August and September, running away with the pennant and subsequently sweeping N.L. flag holders the Cincinnati Reds in four World Series games. This particularly high-grade team ball offers twenty black ink signatures from the pinstriped Champions, highlighted by a young Joltin' Joe, Henrich, Crosetti, Rolfe, Dickey, Ruffing and Selkirk. Gehrig is absent, as is typical of the vast majority of '39 Yankee balls. The OAL (Harridge) ball is evenly and attractively toned, and the signatures average 7 to 8/10, with only a couple dropping a point or two. All are easily legible. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
