HSC: 1928 Green Bay Packers Program 1928 Green Ba
1928 Green Bay Packers Program. Certainly one of the earliest Green Bay Packers programs (or professional football in general, for that matter) that you're likely to find, this amazing rarity was printed for a Sunday meeting between the Packers and the Minneapolis Marines on September 16, 1928. The twenty-four pages offer no shortage of early gridiron appeal, beginning with a photo and bio of the legendary Curley Lambeau on page three, and going on to include similar tributes to members of the Packers Hall of Fame like Jug Earp, Lavvie Dilweg, Joe Dunn, Bernie Darling, Whitey Woodin and Verne Lewellen. It's also interesting to note that official records have the Minneapolis Marines folding after the 1924 season--is it time to revise the history books? We also notice that the man wearing the number "1" jersey for the Marines is "W. Kiesling," a 245 pound guard from Duluth, where Walter played ball for the Duluth Eskimos the previous two seasons. Condition, while almost beyond consideration when speaking of a piece so scarce, is remarkably fine here, with some wear and light toning at the edges, but all pages still firmly affixed to the stapled binding.
