HSC: 1913 Ebbets Field Celluloid Pocket Mirror 19
1913 Ebbets Field Celluloid Pocket Mirror. Built on the site of Brooklyn's Pigtown garbage dump at a cost of $750,000, Charles Ebbets' palatial new ballpark joined Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago as the premier new sporting venues of the early 1910's. Few who visited the Flatbush landmark could forget the majestic marbled rotunda just inside the front gates, or the way the stacked grandstands kept the crowd close to the action. Mr. Ebbets' justifiable pride is succinctly stated on this rare and desirable production piece dating from the ballpark's earliest days, with text reading "Ebbets Field, The Home of the Brooklyn Base Ball Club, is the Most Beautiful, Modern, Perfectly Appointed and Conveniently Located Base Ball Field in the World." The classic image of the exterior main entrance appears at center. Condition is quite strong, with expected foxing speckling the outer edges, and minor loss of the mirror's reflective surface on verso. You will be hard pressed to find a stronger specimen, or to find any other at all. Dimensions are 1.75x2.75".
