HSC: 1883 Harry Wright Signed Box Score PSA/DNA 1
1883 Harry Wright Signed Personal Box Score. One of the true pioneers of the early game, Wright took center field duties for the first all-professional team, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings, designed the standard baseball uniform and engineered the box scoring system, a specimen of which is wonderfully represented here. Offered is a single page from Wright's personal scoring book, filled out and signed entirely in the early Hall of Famer's hand as he managed the Providence Grays in a thirteen to four loss to the powerful Buffalo Bisons. Wright's skilled hand captures the events of this May 17th, 1883 game with a military precision, offering an intriguing look into the 19th century game--sixteen total errors!--with names on the batting line-ups like Radbourne, O'Rourke and Brouthers. All pencil writing is as strong as the day it was applied to this 4x6.5" sheet, including that within the box marked scorer, into which Wright has entered his signature. Wright's passing in 1895 makes his one of the most difficult of all Hall of Fame autographs, and the appearance of one on a personal box score pays big dividends. The page itself remains in wonderful condition, with no condition issues worth noting. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
