This oil on canvas painting, signed and attr. Horace Pippin (American, 1888-1946), features a silhouetted cityscape scene in the middle of a rainy storm with sunlight barely shining through the dark clouds. The church steeple to the left is perhaps an ode to his themes of religion and the injustice of slavery and American segregation which features prominently in many of his other works more explicitly. The artist's signature is in the lower right corner and measures 8 inches x 10 inches. PROVENANCE: Private collection, Toronto, ON
