(HOLOCAUST)
Very rare German passport issued to a German Jew who fled to England in 1939, and bearing all official seals and stamps. The passport, stamped with a large, red "J" on the first page, was issued in on Jan. 16, 1939 to one Dr. Manfred Israel Saalheimer, 33 years old, and at the time residing in Dresden. On Feb. 11, 1939 the British Consul in Dresden gave Saalheimer a 12 month visa marked "GOOD FOR SINGLE JOURNEY ONLY". He wasted no time leaving, as the passport also bears an arrival visa stamped in Southampton, England on Mar. 29, 1939 and valid for only one year. Other interesting notes on the passport include one that states that the passport is valid for only one year, with another stamp from the Dresdner Bank concerning currency exchange. On January 30, 1939, just 12 days before Saalheimer obtained his visa, Hitler declared: "“If war erupts it will mean the extermination of European Jews…" Very good.
