Lot of 4 different. Henry M. Yerington was involved in mining, land, and lumber interests in Nevada, but is best known for his work with the Virginia & Truckee Railroad and Carson & Colorado Railroad. He is reported to have been president of sixteen different companies at one time and actively involved in forty. Yerington was a leader in the Republican Party in Nevada and very influential in state politics. 1) 1870 Bank of California check with RN-B17b imprinted revenue. Dateline Virginia, Nev. Signed Yerington & Co. (by Yerington). Issued to Davis & Gillson on account of Zuong Hing. Extremely rare. Yerington & Co. was a lumber company to supply the Comstock mines. It later became Yerington, Bliss, & Company, and then Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company. 2) Bank of California personal Yerington check issued in Virginia City in 1874 to Barnert & Love. Signed by Yerington. RN-D (buff?). 3) Wells, Fargo. & Co., Carson, Nevada check for Yerington & Co. Issued in 1874 to the tax collector of Ormsby County. Signed by JMH for Yerington & Co. RN-D. 4) Wells Fargo & Co. Carson, Nevada personal check issued in 1877 to E. Niles. Signed by Yerington. RN-F.
