HM Inspected U.S. Maryland Contract Flintlock Pistol

This pistol has the characteristics of a Joseph Henry contract flintlock pistol with the exception of the lack of markings. Then Henry pistols were manufactured in very limited number, 150 pairs in 1807 and 600 pairs in 1808. Brass mountings, dovetailed brass blade front sight, wooden ramrod and mounted with a full walnut stock with brass butt cap and "HM" stamped on the left flat, which is the inspection mark of Henry Murray, the State of Maryland's Assistant Armorer. (see "Historic Pistols" page 284 and 286 by Smith and Bitters).

Very good as professionally reconverted to flintlock. The metal surfaces have a dark patina and the brass components show a natural aged patina. The front strap is separated from the stock a bit at the bottom. The stock is fine with scattered minor dents and dings associated with a gun of this age. The action functions well.
