The tooth, which forms the handle of this cane, has a tau-like form. It is nearly 4.5" wide and 1.25" long and has beenornamented with a silver twist along the roots and a cap over the tooth which has a scroll and heart pattern. The 1"sterling collar is marked "925/1000 Fine". The inscription is simply "Aug. 23, 1898" on the collar. There is a wider,1.5", band approximately 5" down the bamboo shaft, which has "W.L.C." monogrammed on it. The ferrule is 1.5"nickel and steel. There is a scratch through the "L" of the monogram, one loop broken off on the tooth cap, plusminor dings on the ferrule. Overall length, 38.5". We believe, but are not certain, that this massive tooth is from ahippo. Perhaps some of you can help!(EST 400-600)
