Lettre adressée à la Société Royale de Londres [...] qui prouve qu'une femme peut concevoir et accoucher sans avoir de commerce avec aucun homme. Traduite de l'Anglois d'Abraham Johnson. S.l., s.n., 1750. In-12° : [4]-x-57 pp. Rel. de l'époque : plein veau marbré, dos fleuronné doré à nerfs, tr. rouges (qqs taches sur les plats, mors lég. frottés).
Relié avec (en 1re partie) : [ROE, Richard].- Concubitus sine Lucina, ou Le plaisir sans peine. Réponse à la lettre intitulée Lucina sine Concubitu. A Londres, 1750, 59 pp.
Editions originales de ces deux textes complémentaires. Le premier est une satire contre les soi-disant méthodes scientifiques de la Soc. royale de Londres. Etant "prouvé" que les spermatozoïdes flottent dans l'air, il y est fait démonstration d'une machine-attrapeuse de ces petites bêtes destinées à féconder des dames sans l'intervention de messieurs ! Cette satire ne fut pas appréciée et c'est grâce à un important ouvrage de botanique que Hill (1716-1775) gagna à nouveau l'estime de ses pairs. La réponse de Roe est moins amusante.

Payment will be made in Euro's. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 200 EUR or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Euro's (EUR)
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 1250 EUR
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
