***Auction Highlight*** 1804 Small/Large 8 BD-5 R-7 Gold Draped Bust $5 Half Eagle Graded au58+ details By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH - Up for Auction is The Very rarest of the Rare, the Elusive BD-5, 1804 Small 8 over Large 8 Draped Bust $5 Gold Half Eagle, a Rarity 6+ Variety. The BD-5 Does not represent the very popular 8/8 overdate. The 8/8 overdate can be found in 3 Die Varieties, the BD-5, the BD-6 and the BD-7. Virtually all are either the 6 or 7. The BD-5 is the rarest 1804, and one of the KEY Die Varieties of the entire Series. A famous rarity in a high state of preservation. This Variety was sought out and held in collections such as Pogue, Norweb and Harry Bass! And Now Your collection may be able to contain such a rarity! , As a variety, it nears the highest echelons of elusiveness, with a population of 15 to 18 specimens in all grades estimated in the Bass-Dannreuther book. This variety was not known to Breen in 1966, though specimens had been offered during his period of study (including the coin in the 1955 Farish Boldenone sale, a specimen of this variety that later ended up in the Harry Bass Collection) was acquired by Mrs. Emery May Norweb. The Key Pick Up Points for the Variety are, on the Reverse, as all 3 share the 8/8 Obverse. But the BD-5 can easily be spotted by looking for the tell-tale die break from the shield running directly through the E in America. It was this die break that led to the die being quickly retired. As a 2nd pick up point you can look to the star by the beak. It will not touch the upper beak, and the other point will aim just above the lower beak! I was blown away when I verified the variety. I also should add that there is no specific reason I can discern why it has a details designation. No hairlines or marks are present to justify such in any obvious way. I wish you Great Luck in possibly obtaining a Rarity sought by the likes of Bass, Norweb and Pogue. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
