BY ARMAND OF PARIS. Cal. 12 Bore. NSN. Heer lists Armand working from 1814-1840 at 268 & 19 Rue du Roule & in the 1790's he worked at Manufacture de Versailles w/ Boutet. This superb quality gun has 23 3/4" twist bbls. w/ crowned "AF" proofs on bottoms. Breeches are nicely filed. An ebony ramrod w/ brass tip & tail (worm under tail) is held by 1 plain pipe w/ sling eye. Breech iron is scroll engraved. Isolated back spring locks are fitted w/ tall serpentine hammers. Locks & hammers are scroll engraved, each also w/ "ARMAND A PARIS". Dbl. beaded trigger guard has scroll on bow surrounding gold initials "J E B" (?) in gold inlaid circle. Stock of very nicely veined & fiddle figured European walnut measures 13 7/8" over engraved steel buttplate. Bottom line of stock is in the form of a shallow ogee ending w/ carved volute at bottom of buttplate. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip. Other mountings are of steel & bbls. attach to stock w/ side bolt through engraved oval steel escutcheons. A ferule for attaching some unknown device is at bottom of forend. Bore diameters: left - .731, .000 (cyl), right - .731, .000 (cyl). Wall thickness: left - .030, right - .030. DAC: 1 3/4". DAH: 2 7/8". Cast is neutral. LOP: 13 7/8". WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 9 oz. CONDITION: bbls. retain over 80% dramatic twist finish. All metal parts retain most of their original French gray, nipples still w/ considerable original temper blue. Stock retains over 80% original French polish w/ a number of scattered marks & dings. There is a sm. repair to wood of left bbl. channel near breech end. Bores are bright & shiny. Gun has seen very little use. Locks are crisp. (01-17180/MGM43). ANTIQUE. $900-1,200.
