GUN RETAILED BY RUSSELL HILLSDON. Cal. 410, 3". S# 97423. These sm. bore British shotguns are often found in poor condition from long term storage in garden sheds & barns, ready for use in exterminating pests, therefore examples in high condition are fairly scarce. This gun has 28" dovetailed bbls., engraved "Royal Counties" on swamped game rib. Tops of bbls. engraved "Russell Hillsdon" "Chichester". Bbl. flats stamped w/ Birmingham nitro proofs for 3" chambers & 9/16 oz. of shot. Casehardened top lever action fitted w/ back spring locks w/ sm. round bodied serpentine rebounding hammers. Water table stamped "Solid Bar" & w/ S#. Action engraved w/ about 40% coverage varying size scroll w/in dbl. line borders. Blued trigger guard w/ scroll on bow has S# on tang. Straight grip buttstock of nicely streaked European walnut measures 14 1/8" over serrated wood butt. Point pattern checkering is at grip & a vacant silver oval is on toeline. Matching splinter forend has spring tension release. MEASUREMENTS: bbls: bore diameter: right: .382", left: .382". Restriction: right: (FULL?), left: (FULL?). Bbls. retaining over 90% original blue thinning on sides w/ some silvering of sharp edges. Action & locks retain over 70% original casehardening color, most loss due to hand wear on bottom of action & tail on right lockplate. Trigger guard retains perhaps 10% of its original blue, loss due to flaking & some wear. Stocks retain over 90% of their original oil finish w/ a lg. number of light marks & scratches w/ a fairly lg. concentration on left side of butt below comb. Checkering is lightly worn.
