HERMANN GORING
(1893 - 1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. Rare D.S. "Goering", 1p. large 4to., Berlin, Jan 3, 1945 [marked in error "1944"], an appointment of the highest ranking Generalrichter (judge with the rank of general) for the Luftwaffe, the last Luftwaffe appointment of its type, issued to Dr. Manfred Roeder. Additionally signed with a rubber stamp by Adolf Hitler, who used the stamp only following the bomb attempt on his life, during the period December 1944 to January 1945. Files holes at left margin, else fine. MANFRED ROEDER (1900-1971) led the investigation, examinations and later the prosecution of the German Resistance group, the Red Orchestra. He shared responsibility for the dozens of death sentences handed down by the Reich court martial, but was never convicted of any crime.
