HERBERT, VICTOR
(1859 - 1924) American composer and conductor, composer of Babes in Toyland and two grand operas, Natomas and Madeleine. Good content A.L.S. on letterhead of the Cosmopolitan Theatre, 1p. 4to., New York, Feb. 2, [n.y.], to Frank, in part: "...I did not hear the concert because our radio had a broken tube that couldn't be replaced...However, I had several letters from Phil telling me of the beautiful concert [Joe] Pasternack gave. Too bad I couldn't have heard it...". Hollywood producer Joe Pasternack created, with Henry Koster, several musicals for MGM in the 1940s, saving the firm from financial ruin. He is best remembered for popularizing the teen musical as a movie genre in 1960s with such features as Where the Boys Are and Girl Happy. Folds, boldly signed and very good.
