HERBERT HOOVER TLS, 1 1/3pp, Aug 28, 1924, 4to, Dept of Commerce letterhead, to Grosvenor Clark, nice content re an article in Atlantic Monthly regarding Hoover, former President Woodrow Wilson, and the discussion of oil resources at the "Conference for the Limitation of Armament" (1921). Reads in part, "...In respect to your inquiry as to the accuracy of statements about myself...The only trouble with this statement is that it is wholly untrue...I was never aware that world pools or any such policies with regard to natural resources were contemplated by Mr [Woodrow] Wilson...therefore could not have been the thread through which any continuity of policy in this direction was maintained...I was never a member of the War Industries Board...So far as I am aware, no qustion of oil resources of Asia or elsewhere was ever discussed at the Disarmament Conference - certainly not be me...I was not aware that any consequental oil resource in Asia was controlled...by Japan..." Adds last line in holograph, "If this refers to Saghelen [sic] Island it is a myth." Couple of small tears at margin. Light soiling, o/w VG. $300-400
