HENRY, The Minstrel
The acts and deeds of the most famous and valliant champion Sir William Wallace, Knight of Ellerslie: written by Blind Harry in the year 1361. Together with Arnaldi Blair relationes ... The first work printed in Black
Letter, later half calf, cloth boards, small 4to., Edinburgh: [n.p.], 1758
Note: Harry the Minstrel or Blind Harry lived in the second half of the 15th century. He appears to have been a blind Lothian man, in humble circumstances, who acquired some reputation as a story teller. The poem attributed to him is one of the earliest, most extensive, verse-documents in Scots. An MS, dated 1488, survives in the National Library of Scotland. The final 80 p. contain historical information about William Wallace compiled by his chaplain John Blair, and a commentary to Blair's text together with extracts taken from medieval and Renaissance historians.
