American military leader and statesman; brilliant and daring cavalry commander during the American Revolution known as “Light Horse Harry.” His famed eulogy before Congress at the funeral of George Washington contained the now familiar phrase “first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.” He was the father of Robert E. Lee. Partly printed DS as governor of VA, 1p, 7¼"x12", Richmond, May 9, 1793. Embossed paper seal present. Military appointment of Lewis Edwards as “<i>Lieutenant in the first Battalion of the thirty ninth Regiment</i>” in the Virginia Militia. Large and boldly signed at conclusion. Penned portions of text dark with crisp printed text. General moderate toning, darker at edges from previous framing; partial fold separations repaired with clear tape on verso; irregular 2" tear at right edge with no paper loss; occasional edge chipping with little paper loss; vertical fold transverses first initial.

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped
immediately upon receipt of payment.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
authenticity by expert authenticators acceptable
