(1777 - 1852) American politician, the "Great Pacificator" who supported the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850 which sought to avoid a civil war on the issue of states' rights and slavery. Manuscript transmittal leaf, oblong 4to., addressed in Clay's hand to: "P. R. Kendall Esqr. Washington City Ds. Col." Docketed in another hand at left: "Clay, henry Ashland 21st Nov. 1829 Ansd. Jany. 6, 1830 Wrote to him Jany. 9, '30" Light toning at folds, wax seal intact, archivally matted.
