HELMET & CUIRASS OF THE PRUSSIAN GARDE DU CORPS
HELMET & CUIRASS OF THE PRUSSIAN GARDE DU CORPS NCO's Helmet and breastplate of the Kaiser's bodyguard, (the leading cavalry regiment in the Prussian army). Founded in 1740 and garrisoned at Potsdam. It was considered the premier fighting force of the German services. The helmet is of tombak with a silvered 'garde' star with Frederick the Great's Prussian eagle in its center. The chinstrap is the scaled overlay style. The leather liner is there, but well used and still pliable. There are four extra holes for the wearing of the spike instead of the eagle. Some service wear, some dents are present in the cuirass. The cuirass is complete and is in bronze or brass. It shows minute pitting to some areas. Overall in very good condition.
