Currency:USD Category:Collectibles / Militaria Start Price:375.00 USD Estimated At:750.00 - 1,000.00 USD
HEINRICH HIMMLER
(1900 - 1945) Hitler's Chief of the Gestapo placed in charge of security and responsible for the construction and operation of extermination camps. He chose suicide rather than face a hangman's noose at Nuremburg. Rare partly-printed D.S. "H. Himmler" as Reichsfuhrer SS and Chief of the German Police, 1p. oblong 8vo., Berlin, Nov. 16, 1936, sent to a well-wisher upon the death of Himmler's father. In part: "For the condolences regarding my father, I thank you on behalf of my dear mother, our family, and in my name...I am unable to answer your handwritten letter personally in the same way...I would like you to accept our thanks with this printed card...". Himmler's father, Joseph Gebhard Himmler, was a secondary-school teacher and principal of the prestigious Wittelsbacher Gymnasium in Munich. He likely had a distinct role in Himmler's deep involvement in German folklore: while their mother sewed, Joseph would often read to the boys. These books on German history steeped Heinrich in the glories of medieval German knights and Wagnerian legends.

Estimate: $750 - 1,000.
