Mixed media on paper, framed, featuring a portrait of a female nude, signed and attr. Hector Carybe (Brazilian, 1911-1997), on the lower right corner, dated '67.9.4 x 7.5 in. (24 x 19 cm). Carybe produced five thousand pieces of work, including paintings, drawings, sculptures and sketches. He illustrated books by Jorge Amado as well as Gabriel Gárcia Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. He was an Obá de Xangô, an honorary position in candomblé. He died of heart failure during a session in a candomblé yard. PROVENANCE: Southern Ontario estate
