HB-125 EP-147 12¢ Gage Brothers & Drake, Tremont House Fine-Very Fine. The 12¢ denomination of this merchant is the highest known to have been issued. According to the Hodder-Bowers book, "The 12¢ value is an extreme rarity in this series: only two specimens can be accounted for presently. It was unknown to specialists until 1939." We believe the current census to be three pieces. This example spent a considerable amount of time in circulation, but it has worn evenly, and it remains problem free. The mica has some minor crazing at the bottom below Washington's neck, but it is crystal clear everywhere else. The stamp has retained its full color, and most important on a rarity, the closure is tight, even and unquestionably original. An extremely important opportunity for the advanced specialist.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
