Beautiful 1934 woodcut depicting Mother and child, titled "The War Baby". Hazel Brill Jackson (1894-1991) known for animal (horse, dogs) sculpture and graphics- was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in1894. She was educated at the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Massachusetts; in Rome, Italy by Angelo Zanelli; and in Florence, Italy at the Scuola Rosatti. She also studied with Charles Grafly and Bela Pratt. She was a member of the National Sculpture Society, New York City and winner of numerous awards. In 1924, she exhibited at the Concord Art Association in a show featuring such prominent artists as Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt and George Bellows. This woodcut is in excellent condition, in original matted folder. Paper size of the print is 14 x 10.625 inches, image size is 11.125 x 8.25 inches, folder size 19 x 14 inches. Pencil signed : Hazel Jackson, dated 1934, edition 15/30 - hand printed, titled "The war baby", inscribed. Artist logo HBJ in stylized butterfly mark is in the plate.
