HAUPTMANN, BRUNO RICHARD
(1900 - 1936) American criminal, a German carpenter convicted in 1935 of the kidnapping and murder of infant son of Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh following a sensational trial. Exceptionally rare D.S., a check drawn on the first National Bank of Chicago, Dec. 6, 1935, in which one H. Gail Davis makes a 25 cent payment to Hauptmann. On the verso, Hauptmann endorses the check with a bold full signature: ""Bruno Richard Hauptmann"". Signed by Hauptmann just prior to his second appeal to the Supreme Court, and only four months before his execution, on April 3, 1936. Cancellation punches lightly affect signature, otherwise very good condition.
