The following year, Siegel arranged for Ansel Adams to present a lecture and workshop at the Photo Guild. The encounter with Adams was enormously inspirational for both Callahan and Webb. Siegel was also an influence and instrumental in Callahan's later move to Chicago to begin teaching at the Institute of Design, where Siegel had studied with Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. In late 1941, Siegel also held informal photography discussions at his house in Detroit for Callahan, Webb, and two others who abandoned the Detroit Photo Guild because of its conservatism, Don Shapero and Joe Munroe. This lot is a fine illustration of friendship between the two photographers.
