HARPER'S WEEKLY FROM 1862 WITH ANTI-CONFEDERATE CARTOONS
A single page from the Aug. 16, 1862 issue of Harper's Weekly, bearing amongst various advertisements are three cartoons. The first shows a young boy in fireman's suit urging his sleeping father to remain in bed because: "...You may Required for the War"; a second depicts a Black servant handing a "horrified husband" a Union uniform and noting that his missing wife: "...say she's gone Nuss-ing to Fort Munroe - and she tole me to rub up your Regimentals, 'case you wanted to follow her". The third cartoon shows a drowning white Southern man refusing the help of a Black man. Titled "The Consistent Negrophobist", following some racist rhetoric from the man, the cartoon concludes: "Goes down. Consistent to the last". Very good.

Estimate: $50 - 75.
