HARPER’S FERRY MODEL 1795 FLINTLOCK MUSKET
HARPER’S FERRY MODEL 1795 FLINTLOCK MUSKET. Cal .69. 44-7/8” round bbl. The cartouches have been obscured with several sets of initials both cut and stamped on the left side of the stock. Only two of these are completely readable “J. P.” on the counterplate and “B. WARE. / SALEM / OHIO” on the left cheek. Lockplate is dated 1801 but no date appears on the buttplate. Lockplate appears to be original flintlock but bbl has been bushed about 3/16” above the current touch hole. There is no eagle above the US on the lockplate. SN 19298. CONDITION: Smooth gray patina with light pitting on bbl, slightly heavier on the lock. The tit on the rear bbl band spring is broken but still present. Wood has been repaired under the lockplate and the wood lightly sanded and refinished. Lock is fine. Only 293 muskets were made at Harper’s Ferry in 1801 so the survival rate must be very small. 4-50077 FS130
