HAROLD R. STARK
A wartime letter grouping from the Chief of Naval Operations

(1880 - 1972) American admiral and Chief of Naval Operations during World War II. A lot of material, includes: seven war-date T.Ls.S. to his sister Lulu [Mrs. E. B. Mulligan] and his nephew "Popper", dated Aug.-Nov. 1942 and signed "Harold" or "Little Brother". One mentions: "...The present British drive in Egypt is going great to date. We had so many set-ups down there that I have almost been afraid to say anything about this one. Everyone here says Montgomery is a splendid man. I had heard that he said his life's ambition had always been to beat a Field Marshal on the field of battle, and that now he has a chance and was going to do it...". Balance of content is social. Along with an A.N.S. in pencil titled "Memo for Eddy": "Hope they get to you in time...HRS"; a carbon of a poem titled "Apostrophe to an Army Air Plane" by "Ginsir", with holograph notation at bottom: "Tell Popper many here have enjoyed the one he sent me HRS". Along with a carbon copy of a letter to Charles De Gaulle on July 14, 1942; file copies of typed letters sent to family members, some with content, a typed radio broadcast from Oct. 1942, various appointment schedules for 1942, and a few original photographs. Overall very good condition.

Estimate: $200 - 300.
