HANS-ULRICH RUDEL
HANS-ULRICH RUDEL
(1916-1982) German Luftwaffe military aviator during World War II, a ground-attack pilot credited with an enormous number of ground "kills". T.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Kufstein, Sep. 22, 1978, on his personal letterhead. In part: "...To be sure, I have a large postage expense, but you don't always have to send me money! Many thanks to you. I hope I have fulfilled your desire and did not misinterpret the letter. Three weeks from today I fly to South America..." Boldly signed at the conclusion in blue ink. Hitler created a special award for Rudel, the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross, with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. Rudel's letterhead bears a personal seal, incorporating the elements of this decoration. Folds, else fine.
