Volume I consists of 13 stories first published between 1868-1873 in The Riverside Monthly Magazine for Young People and Scribner`s Monthly Magazine, each illustrated by Kredel, along with various letters of Andersen`s to Horace Scudder, editor of the Riverside Monthly.
