A great Handy item, typed D.S. on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., New York, Jan. 1, 1942, the lyrics to the verse and chorus of his famous Memphis Blues, with lyrics written by George A. Norton, titled ""The Memphis Blues or Mister Crump"". In part: ""...Folk's I've just been down, Down the Memphis Town, That's where the people smile, Smile on you all the while, Hospitality, they were good to me, I couldn't spend a dime and had the grandest time..."". Boldly signed at bottom ""William C. Handy Jan. 1st, 1942"". Paper clip impression with a bit of rust-staining at top left, otherwise very good condition.
