A neat Handy item, typed D.S. on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., New York, Jan. 1, 1942, the lyrics to the second verse of his famous Memphis Blues, titled ""The Memphis Blues or Mister Crump"". In part: ""...Oh, that melody, sure appeal'd to me, Just like a mountain stream, Rippling on it seems, The it slowly died, With a gentle sigh, Soft as the breeze that whines, High in the summer pines..."". Boldly signed at bottom ""William C. Handy Jan. 1st, 1942"". Minor paper clip impression at top left, otherwise very good condition.
