HAND, LEARNED
(1872 - 1961) American jurist who heard cases until the age of 89, he compiled a record tenure on the bench. A fine association piece, A.N.S. 1p. 12mo., [n.p.], Apr. 9, 1959, penned in green ink on an album sheet which was presented to noted photographer Alfred Eisenstadt. In full: ""What most has impressed me is the feeling and assurance with which you have discharged your intricate duties. Learned Hand April 9, 1955"". On the verso is a similar dedication to Eisenstadt by playwright TRUMAN CAPOTE, reading in full: ""For A.E. (my favorite ice-skating companion); Je responderez Truman Capote 1959"". Two pin holes at left margin, easily matted out, otherwise very good. An interesting combination of signatures!
