(1737 - 1793) American Revolutionary politician and first signer of the Declaration of Independence, President of the Continental Congress and two-time Governor of Massachusetts. War-date partly-printed D.S. as Governor of Massachusetts, 1p. folio, Boston, Oct. 18, 1781, an appointment of Joshua Fabyan of Scarboro to serve for seven years as Justice of the Peace in Cumberland, Co. provided: "…he shall during that time behave well…" and instructing him to: "…chastise and punish all Persons offending…[against the] Laws and Ordinances made for the Good of the Peace…". A near perfect, bold signature, weak folds with some clean, short tears archivally repaired on verso, overall very good and suitable for framing.
