HALF PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE OF MEN UNDER UMBRELLA. Anonymous, half plate daguerreotype of five well-dressed men standing beneath a large umbrella. A younger man sits on a nail keg in the foreground, and displays a clothes brush in his hands. The ground is littered with wood shavings and other bits of detritus, suggesting a factory or some other industrial setting. A wisp of a tree limb intrudes from the upper left, and in the rear, an out of focus two-story brick building is evident. Recently discovered in Cincinnati. Partially sealed when consigned, we broke the seals to clean the filthy glass; needs to be resealed with filmoplast. The plate is bright and unblemished save for mold spiders and two tiny areas of tarnish (though tarnish rings hidden by mat). Should at least be gently washed.
