HAITI, pattern crown (2 gourdes), Henri I, King of Northern Haiti, 1811 / L'AN 8, small date, very rare, PCGS MS62. KM-X11. Well struck and sharply detailed, with deep gray toning over traces of luster throughout, one of the finest known survivors of this elusive type featuring a laureate armored bust of Henri I. This locally struck pattern without denomination was made shortly after Henri's coronation as King of Northern Haiti and is a celebrated rarity in early Haitian numismatics. The small-date variety is particularly elusive and absent in most major collections.
