This is the rare first edition of Longfellow's epic poem about the Ojibway Indians, which preceded the U.S. edition (Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1855) by a mere 10 days. The inside front cover includes the bookplate of Sir Charles A. Hanbury, a British M.P. who was raised to the Peerage as Baron Sudely of Toddington in 1838.
