Identical to the Springfield and Harpers Ferry Model 1816, this musket was manufactured by H. Osborne of Springfield, Mass. and was one of about 12 other makers of the contract Model 1816 musket. This Type II is marked "H. OSBORNE / SPRINGFIELD" on the lock ahead of the hammer, there are no other visible markings on the musket. All iron mountings except for the brass flash pan, all parts were finished Armory bright. Trigger guard attached to the trigger guard plate with sling swivel mounted in the front, iron ramrod with button head and mounted with a full walnut stock secured by three barrel bands held by bandsprings. There are no visible markings on the stock. Complete with a 19 inch socket bayonet marked with a "crown/K" and "g" on the bottom nearest the breech

Condition: Fair. The metal surfaces have a mottled gray patina, with some scattered minor pitting, heavier on the buttplate and two forward barrel bands. The stock has been sanded and varnished and remains good with a minor 8 1/4 inch crack on the left side of the buttstock extending from the buttplate forward. There is a small pieced in repair on the lower front of the left flat. Overall there are scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The action needs work, the hammer is frozen in the cock position. The bayonet is good with a smooth mottled brownish gray patina and several minor dings on the socket.
