H. Gibbs Lancaster Pennsylvania Percussion Long Rifle
Fixed sights on a barrel marked "H. GIBBS / LANCASTER / PA" on the top flat. The lock plate has a partial marking: "LCHER" (likely for Golcher or Goulcher). In AMERICAN GUNSMITH, firearms expert Frank Sellers lists two Henry Gibbs (father and son), working as gunsmith in Lancaster, PA, circa 1812-1843 and 1843-1880 respectively. A game bird scene is engraved on the lock behind the hammer. Plain trigger and wooden ramrod. The crescent buttplate, trigger guard, forend cap, patch box, barrel wedges (3 in all), and ramrod pipes are brass. The full length tiger stripe maple stock has a checkered wrist.
