ALS signed “H. G.,” one page, 7 x 8.75, Easton Glebe, Dunmow letterhead, no date. Letter to former head of the British War Propaganda Bureau, Charles Masterman, in part: “You can’t show that there has ever been any change in my fundamental ideas except on…growth & development.” In fine condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds, and slight creasing and toning. During the onset of the first World War, Masterman recruited writers and painters like Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Francis Dodd to support the Allied war effort, sending them to the United States for touring patronage exhibitions designed to encourage America to enter the war and align with British and French forces.
