Illustrations and foldout maps.<BR><BR>Green cloth with gilt spine. Gilt title, stamped signature of author, and a fierce Afghan tribesman on cover. Light edge knocks to corners. Bookplate of Adrian Grant-Duff (1869-1914). He served with the Black Watch, being appointed successively 2nd Lieutenant in 1889, Captain in 1898, Major in 1907 and Lieutenant-Colonel in 1914. He was killed in action in September 1914 at the battle of the Aisne.<BR><BR>Slight browning, else very good.<BR><BR>Hutchinson was Director of Military Education in India. The Tirah Campaign was precipitated by an attack on the British political officer in the Tochi Valley in June 1897. Leading to the most violent and widespread tribal outbreak since the annexation of the Punjab fifty years earlier.
