This is a scarce example of an early production .22 caliber sidehammer revolver manufactured by Allen & Wheelock circa 1858. The revolver has the early production features such as the long cylinder pin entering from the rear, the hammer striking right of center and grooved top strap for sighting. The left barrel flat has the two line address/1858 patent date marking and the cylinder has engraved scenes inside five circular panels. Matching numbers on frame, barrel, cylinder and grips. Fitted with smooth grips. The Gutta Percha hinged case is velvet lining and has a cartridge block holding 50 cartridges featuring the "U" head stamp.

Condition: Very good. The revolver retains traces of original blue finish in the protected areas with the balance a smooth gray patina. There is limited minor pitting. Nearly all of the cylinder scenes remain. The grips are very fine with much of the varnish remaining and a few minor handling marks. Mechanically fine. The case is fine with some chipping along the top edges of lid and faded lining.
