Brief summary of Gustav Klimt:
(Vienna, 1862 - id., 1918) Austrian painter. He was the most representative figure of pictorial modernism (Jugendstil) in the German-speaking world. He trained at the school of applied arts in his hometown and was successful as the author of large decorative paintings in the academic style, of which the paintings on the staircase of the Vienna Museum of Art History are a good example.

In 1897, his interest in avant-garde art led him to leave the Vienna Association of Artists and found, with some friends, the famous Vienna Secession, of which he was the first president and maximum exponent. The allegorical wall paintings for the University of Vienna, in which an obvious change in style is already noticeable, attracted harsh criticism, for which the artist abandoned the commission before finalizing it (those that had been completed were destroyed by a fire in 1945 ).

As a result of this episode, he stopped receiving official commissions, despite which he made a large number of fabrics, first landscapes represented with a very peculiar conception of perspective and in which green tones predominate, and then, above all, female figures . which are the best known and most valued of their production.
