TLS signed “Virgil I. Grissom,” one page, 8 x 10.5, NASA letterhead, November 19, 1963. Letter to J. Duane Upton, in part: "The effects and impact on the future of mankind resulting from present-day space explorations cannot be measured with accuracy at this time. Our activities in the National Space Program have introduced us to many new challenges and have opened the door to an unlimited number of opportunities. However, perhaps more important we have been given a promise and a preview of better things to come." In fine condition. Since 1963, the space program has provided 54 years of technological innovation, economic impact, and scientific inspiration around the world—an influence that remains impossible to quantify. Grissom, who perished in the Apollo 1 fire, did not live to see many of the effects of the space program in full force. However, this optimistic letter perfectly captures the spirit of innovation in the face of the unknown that characterized America's space program of the early '60s.
