Gus Arriola - Gordo Sunday Comic Strips Original Art, Group of 3 (United Feature Syndicate, 1960). Welcome to the warm, yet wry world of Gordo. This lot features three droll Sundays from 1960 dated 5-8, 7-24, and 9-11, and touches on such wide-ranging topics as astronomy, bathing, and creativity. Gordo, Pepito, Senor Dog, and Piggo cameo in these delightful strips. Parade of Nations, Inc. named Gus Arriola its "Citizen of the Year," and he received The National Cartoonists' Society's award for "Best Humor Strip" in 1957, the first year it was given, and again in 1965. Each Sunday has an image area of 22.5" x 15.5", and each is in Excellent condition. From the collection of Richard and Wendy Pini. Richard says: "Wendy had a chihuahua when she was growing up in the 'Garlic Capital of the World,' Gilroy, California. Gus Arriola's 'Gordo' was a simple and humorous strip -- co-starring a chihuahua. That was all the reason I needed to collect these pages." 3 Original Art
