Guptas, Samudragupta (c. 335-380 AD), Gold Dinar, 7.51Grms, ‘King and Queen’ type, issued in memory of his parents King Chandragupta I and Queen Kumaradevi, OBV: King standing left side, wearing close fitting tailed coat, ear-rings, armlets and boots, front of Queen standing facing to right side, wearing the sari, ear-rings, necklace and armlets, the king offering a flower to the Queen with his right hand and a crescent (for Chandra) above which is rarely seen on these coins, with Brahmi legend ‘Sri Kumaradevi’ in the left field and under arm Chandra in the right field on either side ‘Gupta’, REV: Goddess Durga seated on a lion that is facing left, holding cornucopia and pasha, tamgha on left field and Brahmi legend Lichhavyah (off flan) to commemorate the marriage alliance of Chandragupta I with the queen’s family.
