Slash's American Music Award trophy presented to Guns N' Roses at the 1992 awards ceremony for "Favorite Artist, Heavy Metal/Hard Rock," which he gave to his personal bodyguard, Ron Stalnaker. The award features a lucite pyramid atop a heavy black base, engraved with white text, "American Music Award." The plaque on the front reads: "Favorite Artist, Heavy Metal/Hard Rock, Guns N' Roses, 1991." The award measures approximately 4.5 x 14.5 x 4.5 and weighs 3.5 pounds. In fine condition, with light general wear and some scuffing to the plaque.

Accompanied by a letter of provenance from collector Gary Greenberg, in part: "The Guns N' Roses AMA award pictured here was sold to me back in 2012 by Slash's personal bodyguard Ron Stalnaker. Ron was given the award by Slash who was known to gift awards and such to close friends and business associates…It is one of five made. One for each of the GNR band members." Also includes copies of email correspondence related to the award, including Stalnaker's description of Slash's propensity for generosity: "One thing about awards and Slash. If he was given one and you were standing next to him, it was yours. I got a few awards that way…Most of the time, I got his awards when the office would call and say 'Get these damn awards out of here.'"

Four years after their classic Appetite for Destruction debut, Guns N' Roses released their dual albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II on September 17, 1991, to immediate acclaim—these albums included singles such as 'November Rain,' 'Don't Cry,' and 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door.' These fan-favorite mega-hits earned Guns N' Roses top honors in the 'Favorite Artist, Heavy Metal/Hard Rock' category at the American Music Awards, over fellow nominees Van Halen and Metallica. Unlike the Grammys, which are voted on solely by record industry insiders, the AMAs are chosen based on polls of music buyers and the public. The award ceremony was held on January 27, 1992, and MC Hammer introduced the new rock band FireHouse, who read the nominees and announced the winner as Guns N' Roses; Slash accepted on the band's behalf via video recording. A superb, iconic award from the personal collection of the legendary heavy metal guitarist.
