One of the legendary Marx brothers (1892–1977) who worked with his brothers on the vaudeville circuit, but left acting when he was drafted into the US Army during World War I. Scarce TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Gummo Marx Enterprises letterhead, May 17, 1956. Letter to R. Monta, in full: “Enclosed please find the five signed forms, as you requested. I have already paid $700.00 to Mr. Shean, and I will continue to give him $100.00 per month until the obligation is paid off. Therefore, I wish that you would send me the $2,500.00 now, and I will assume this obligation.” Letter bears a collector’s notation as well as extensive secretarial notations to lower portion. In fine condition, with a ding and creasing to upper left corner, and two punch holes to top edge. The first letter we have ever offered from the most elusive of the five Marx brothers.
