Italian patriot (1805–1872) who dedicated his life, much of which was spent in exile, to uniting his country under a republic. ALS signed “Jos. Mazzini,” one page, 4.25 x 7, no date. Letter to Mr. Stone. In part: “Will you look at the painting now taken to you by the bearer, state candidly your opinion about it and about the period to which it belongs. Then—would your opinion be that it is old…help this man, with…friendly advice, to his best course for the purpose of selling it? I shall be grateful.” Central horizontal and vertical fold, lightly affecting signature, some scattered light toning and soiling, and a few wrinkles, otherwise fine condition.
